With more than 80 years experience and know-how in processing Alpaca, Michell & Co. is the pioneer and the world's leading producer and exporter of Alpaca tops and yarns. 

The Michell family was involved in Alpaca as far back as the early 1920s. However, it was not until 1931 that Mr. Frank W. Michell founded Michell & Co. in Arequipa, starting out as a sorter and exporter of the greasy Alpaca fibre.

In 1947, Michell & Co. established its first Alpaca combing and spinning mill in Peru, thus creating and setting the standard for today’s Alpaca industry not only in Peru but around the world.

Years later, Mr. Michell's idea of increasing the value of the Alpaca fibre was successfully carried out through the selective breeding of Alpaca, the improvement of industrial processes such as scouring, carding, combing, spinning, dyeing, and knitting as well as the development of retailing.

Story and Passion FINEST PERUVIAN ALPACA   The name of Michell is well known and associated with the finest Peruvian Alpaca yarns in Asia and Europe as well as North and South America. However, in order to maintain its recognition  and leadership in the industry, the company continues to invest in, and implement quality programmes that will ensure the continued improvement of all stages of the process; from production trough to customer service.

The full integration of Michell has been achieved thanks to the sons and grandsons of Mr. Frank W. Michell. They have continually endeavoured to recruit and train top class workers, modernise production facilities, improve manufacturing processes, and adopt a culture of change in order to respond quickly to world-wide market needs.

On December 7th 2011, Michell proudly celebrated 80 years of successful business. It has been an amazing journey; one which began when Mr. Frank Michell discovered the luxury of the Alpaca fibre with its unrivalled qualities. His passion led to share and supply the finest Peruvian Alpaca Tops and Yarns around the world.

Everyone at Michell is more motivated than ever, everyone at Michell feels that the journey has only just begun since everyone feels 80 years younger. Despite past incredible achievements, we consider we still have a long way to go to spread our Alpaca passion to the world.
