Creating Awareness for Recycling
junio 11, 2012
Michell will be supporting Vickie Fremont at a series of workshops that will held at the Alianza Francesa in Arequipa between June 11th to 16th, 2012.
Vickie Fremont is an Artist, Designer and Anthropologist with dual background Cameroonian mother and French father. She has an abiding passion for the art, culture and music of Africa. She says, "much more than as a teacher, I think of myself as someone who opens doors -- the doors inside us that make it possible to discover creativity and richer communication with other people."
Vickie as an Artist has made important exhibitions at major Museums in Washington DC and New York, one of the most recent ones was about recycling. She has also worked as Designer with yarn companies in the US and France, where she has developed collections of hand knitted sweaters.
While living in Africa, Vickie realized the recycling is basic tool in life, since any person is capable of creating either pieces of art to products used on a daily basis. Vickie believes this his principle should be spread everywhere in the world to improve the environment, and she says” every effort to create awareness for recycling will help our environment.”
Vickie has been keen in developing programmes, for all ages, based on recycling variety of materials to make crafts objects with an African inspiration.
Vickie is visiting Arequipa this week, and she will be running a series of recycle workshops at Alianza Francesa in Arequipa. These workshops are for children from ages 6 to 12, and the aim is to increase the awareness of recycling and show how they can crafts or products out of recycled materials.
Michell, who share these recycling principals, has decided to support for the second year Vickie’s initiative by donating hand knitting yarns and knitted swatches, that will help the children at the workshops to create crafts with these and other recycled materials.
